Justin Fields had to be carted off the field on Thursday, but has avoided significant injury according to the New York Jets.

Concern for Fields was initially high — with even ESPN host an Jets fan Mike Greenberg having a mini-meltdown on air — but the Jets say Fields is day-to-day with a dislocated toe on his right foot.

Here’s the official update from the Jets:

The former Ohio State quarterback is expected to be the Jets’ starting quarterback this season. Fields has bounced around so far in his pro career but he’s coming off of a quality season with the Steelers in 2024. He completed a career-high 65.8% of his passes last season and led the Steelers to a 4-2 record across 6 starts.

The Jets don’t have many great options behind Fields on the depth chart. Veteran Tyrod Taylor is expected to serve as the primary backup with passers like Adrian Martinez and Brady Cook fighting for a roster spot as well.

Fields and the Jets are scheduled to play their regular-season opener against the Steelers on Sept. 7.
