Justin Fields may be the frontrunner for the Heisman but the Ohio State quarterback’s success this season isn’t a surprise…at least to him.
Through three games, all Buckeye wins, Fields has been nothing short of magisterial. With 908 passing yards and 11 touchdowns, Fields has yet to throw an interception so far this season.
Justin Fields on his performance through three games: “I think it's what I was supposed to do.” He didn't expect his numbers to be quite what they are, but “it's definitely not surprising with the way I worked in the offseason.”

As a sophmore, Fields was impressive with 3,273 passing yards. His 41 touchdowns and three interceptions on 67.2 percent passing made a statement in what was his first true season as a starter at Ohio State. But this year, he has taken things to another level, the byproduct of an extended offseason where Fields clearly made gains.
Fields says balance and posture are the biggest things that have helped improve him as a passer, keeping the defense from knocking the ball down and making him more accurate.

What sticks out about Fields though is his mastery of the offense as well as his efficiency. His 11 touchdowns thrown is also the same number of incompletions he has this season, having completed 72 of 83 passes through the season’s first three games. Those are video game numbers from Fields.
Fields says he's not surprised by his performance so far. It's a natural result of the work he's put in.
But he says that having more touchdowns than incompletions is pretty crazy.

This week, Fields became the favorite for the Heisman, vaulting past preseason favorite Trevor Lawrencehttps://saturdaytradition.com/ohio-state-football/justin-fields-now-the-betting-favorite-to-win-the-heisman/. Were he to win, he would be the Big Ten’s first recipient of the prestigious award since Tory Smith in 2006.
Ohio State, No. 3 in the nation after Saturday’s 49-27 home win over Rutgers, faces a surprising Maryland on Saturday. The Terrapins are 2-1 on the season after beating Penn State on the road this past weekend.
