Justin Fields is the Big Ten’s lone representative for the Johnny Unitas Award, it was announced on Wednesday.

The Ohio State quarterback is one of five finalists for the prestigious award, given to the nation’s top underclassman quarterback. Fields has 1,407 passing yards with 15 touchdowns and three interceptions this season.

According to the Golden Arm Foundation, “The Golden Arm Award, presented annually to the top upperclassmen quarterback by the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Educational Foundation encapsulates all that is positive in college sports. The award acknowledges performance on the field for sure, but it goes beyond completion percentage and touchdown strikes. The award values character, citizenship, integrity and those who honor the game.”

Joining Fields as finalists are Ian Brook (Notre Dame), Mac Jones (Alabama), Trevor Lawrence (Clemson) and Kyle Trask (Florida).

Fields is considered among the frontrunners for the Heisman as well as the Maxwell Awards as both honors go to the nation’s top player. Fields has been tremendous for Ohio State, 5-0 on the season and No. 4 in the latest AP Top 25 Poll.

The Buckeyes will play Northwestern this Saturday in the Big Ten Championship Game.
