Justin Fields is putting together an impressive 2022 season with the Chicago Bears, and he added to that work during the opening drive of the New Year’s Day matchup with the Detroit Lions.
Chicago started the game with the ball and marched right down the field. The drive covered 75 yards on 9 plays, and it was Fields who delivered some big-time plays on the drive.
Fields accounted for 61 yards of offense on the opening drive, including 44 rushing yards. He also completed 2-of-4 passes for 17 yards and the touchdown.
The big play of the drive came via a little bit of trickery. Tight end Cole Kmet took the snap under center and pitched the ball to Fields on a designed toss play with the quarterback serving as a running back on the play.

The final play of the drive came on a 3rd-and-2 from inside the red zone. Fields delivered a strike to Kmet with the TE breaking free and into the end zone for an early score against the Lions.

We’ll see how the rest of the afternoon shapes up, but that’s an impressive start for Fields and the Bears.
