Justin Fields is taking a break from using his legs. At least he will in practice.

The Chicago Bears quarterback is expected to “taper back” in practice before facing off against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. Last week in a 32-31 loss to the Detroit Lions, Fields tallied 13 carries for 147 yards and scored 2 touchdowns on the ground.

Fields told reporters that his legs “felt heavy” following Sunday’s loss at home. In the past two games, the former Ohio State quarterback has produced 28 rush attempts for 321 yards and 3 touchdowns. This season, he’s rushed for a team-high 749 yards and 6 touchdowns on 104 carries.

The 3-7 Bears have been dependent on Fields for most of the season. Chicago currently leads the NFL in rushing attempts (360), yards (2,017) and yards per carry (5.6). Fields currently ranks 3rd in carries, but the numbers could expand after No. 2 running back Khalil Herbert was placed on the injured reserve Tuesday morning.
