Kansas City Chiefs release former Penn State QB

This is a tough break for a former Nittany Lions QB.
The Kansas City Chiefs announced that they have cut former Penn State QB Matt McGloin. The move was made on Sunday.
McGloin has primarily served as a backup since coming into the NFL in 2013. He last appeared in game action with the Oakland Raiders in 2016 and has thrown for 1,868 yards in his NFL career.
The move, though understandable, was still a bit surprising. Kansas City elected to keep rookie QB Chase Litton on the practice squad instead of the more experienced McGloin. While Patrick Mahomes is the unquestioned starter and face of the future, the move leaves the Chiefs with Chad Henne as the primary backup at QB.
McGloin played for the Nittany Lions from 2009-12 and threw for 6,390 yards in his career with the team. His best season came as a senior when he threw for 3,271 yards and 24 TDs.
