Keep Climbing: A 2020 Iowa commit has jumped 2,000 spots in recruiting rankings

Recruiting rankings and star power really doesn’t mean much to Kirk Ferentz. The dean of the B1G has turned two-star and no-star prospects into NFL talent.
One player, since his commitment to Iowa, seems to be growing in popularity without even putting on the Hawkeye uniform yet. According to 247Sports, Mason Richman has showcased enough to improve by 2,000 spots since the website reranked the 2020 class.
In 247Sports’ rankings, Richman — a 6-foot-6, 250-pound offensive tackle — was originally listed as the No. 2,110 player in the 2020 class. After the reranking, though, the future Hawkeye has climbed all the way to No. 248 and earned a four-star ranking.
At the end of May, offensive lineman Mason Richman was ranked 2,110th in the country. After earning an Iowa offer, talking to those close to him, analyzing film and more– Richman is now a four-star prospect by 247Sports. The 6-foot-6 260-pounder out of Kansas is now ranked 248th in the country and the 22nd best offensive tackle in the country.
“Mason is a really good athlete at his size,” 247Sports Midwest Recruiting Analyst Allen Trieu said of Richman when he committed. “I think we wondered if he was twitchy enough as a defensive end, hence his ranking was held back some. Once we evaluated him as an offensive tackle though, his growth potential and explosive qualities speak to a kid who could be really good there. I am hoping his senior film shows as glimpses of him at that position because he could be a rankings riser if so.”
Richman hasn’t seen quite the leap in the 247Sports Composite rankings, which still lists him as a three star player and ranks No. 545 overall. Nonetheless, he’s seen a major increase in his popularity over the last few months.
Finally, people are beginning to notice what Ferentz sees in these recruits.
