Kenny Willekes had a decision to make at the end of the season: pursue a career in the NFL or return to East Lansing for one more season at Michigan State.
Willekes didn’t really get to make that decision, though. Instead, it was made for him. He suffered a broken leg in Michigan State’s Redbox Bowl game against Oregon and had to be carted off the field. At that point, the B1G Defensive Lineman of the Year really didn’t have much of an option.
Now, Willekes is in the recovery process back in East Lansing, waiting for his leg to heal before joining his teammates on the field again. After spending the spring from the sideline, Willekes says he’s about a month away from being at “100 percent,” according to Chris Solari of the Detroit Free Press.
MSU DE Kenny Willekes said he is about a month away from being 100%. Running on flat ground turf. Said the broken leg he suffered in the Redbox Bowl made his decision to return and that he was leaning toward entering the NFL draft before it.

In his last two seasons with Michigan State, Willekes has registered 151 tackles and 15.5 sacks. He’s developed into one of the best defensive linemen in the country.
Though Willekes’ plans may have been altered over the last few months, he still plans on being a leader for the Spartans and picking up where he left off last season.
