One key job in the Pac-12 is coming open with a major change at Stanford incoming.
Following a season-ending loss to BYU, head coach David Shaw announced he was stepping down as head coach of the Cardinal. Shaw spent 12 seasons leading Stanford and is the program’s all-time leader in wins while going 96-54 over his tenure.
However, Stanford had posted back-to-back 3-win seasons and has not reached 9 wins since 2018.

“After many prayers and multiple discussions with my wife, one phrase keeps coming to me – it’s time,” Shaw said via press release. “There are not sufficient words to describe the love and gratitude I feel for my family, all of my former and current players, my staff, this administration and the entire Stanford family. Thank you all.”
Shaw led the program to 4 BCS/New Year’s Six Bowl games, including a pair of Rose Bowl victories by the Cardinal in the 2012 and 2015 seasons. Stanford lost to Michigan State in the ROse Bowl for the 2013 season.
Stanford will conduct a national search for Shaw’s replacement moving forward.
