Purdue running back King Doerue has been ruled out for the Boilermakers ahead of their Week 3 matchup against Syracuse. It is a tough blow for the offense heading into a Power 5 road trip.

The senior running back will miss the game with a calf injury, Jeff Brohm announced Thursday.

So far on the season, Doerue has racked up 64 yards and 3 touchdowns. While he is not the leading rusher for the Boilermakers, he has the most carries, which means the loss could be critical for Purdue.

Purdue is coming off a blowout win against Indiana State and looking for another big win this week against Syracuse. The Boilermakers lost their Week 1 game to Purdue.

Doerue is in his fourth season at Purdue and is capping off a solid career. Last season, the Amarillo, Texas, native had 533 yards and 2 touchdowns.
