Kirk Cousins to give commencement speech at Michigan State graduation

Former Michigan State and current Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins will be returning to East Lansing this spring for a special purpose.
Michigan State University announced on Monday morning that Cousins will speak at the school’s commencement ceremony on Friday, May 3. He will receive an honorary Doctor of Humanities degree.
Also speaking at Michigan State’s graduation will be Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.
“Michigan State is proud to welcome home two distinguished alumni who personify the cherished Spartan qualities of service and leadership in their respective fields,” said MSU Acting President Satish Udpa, according to the school’s website. “Both Gov. Whitmer and Kirk Cousins have earned national acknowledgment of those qualities and are sure to be inspirational speakers for our graduates.”
Cousins was a member of the Spartans football program from 2008-11 and threw for 9,131 yards and 66 touchdowns in his career at Michigan State. The Spartans owned a 22-5 record in Cousins’ final two seasons in East Lansing.
Cousins is currently a member of the Minnesota Vikings after spending his first six seasons with the Washington Redskins. He’s thrown for over 20,000 career yards and 129 touchdowns in his seven-year NFL career.
