Kirk Ferentz broke the news about a pair of freshmen defensive backs who won’t be taking a redshirt year this season. Chad Leistikow of the Des Moines Register tweeted about the news.
Ferentz said that Xavier Nwankpa and T.J. Hall are expected to play for the full season, and not redshirt. Nwankpa was a former 4-star S commit, while Hall was a 3-star ATH out of high school per the 247Sports Composite. Both were members of the 2022 class.
Iowa true freshman DBs Xavier Nwankpa and T.J. Hall are playing the full season, Kirk Ferentz said earlier today. No redshirts for them.

Iowa allowed 213.1 yards per game through the air on defense last season, which was the 6th-fewest in the B1G.
Only Ferentz knows what his plans are for the 2 freshman on defense. This is good sign for the pair, as Iowa will be looking to have a dominant defense once again.
How will the 2 fit into the DB rotation in Iowa City? Ferentz saw something in the pair that made him not want to waste a redshirt.
