Kirk Ferentz discusses the ‘danger’ of playing after a bye week

Iowa escaped Iowa State with a win in Week 3 and snuck off to a bye week with an unblemished 3-0 record.
It has not always been pretty, but some vintage performances under head coach Kirk Ferentz have the Hawkeyes looking good heading into a matchup with Middle Tennessee in Week 5. The bye also came at a good time, allowing Iowa to rest and regroup in Week 4.
Ferentz has admitted publicly that the bye week was a well-timed one. However, Ferentz also admitted Tuesday that there is a bit of “danger” restarting action out of a bye week.

According to Ferentz, there’s a bit of an unknown in the first game back after a bye. It’s sort of like another season opener and making sure the focus and sharpness of the team are there can be tricky.
Hawkeye Sports shared the transcript from Ferentz’s Tuesday press conference:
“It’s a little bit like a first game when you take a break, the danger of breaks is, OK, what’s it going to be like when we come off the break?” Ferentz said. “The break is great, but now we’re coming off the break and time to get our focus on our sharpness.”
Kickoff for Saturday’s game is set for 12 pm EST on ESPN2.
