Kirk Ferentz made sure to note that Iowa’s philosophy is not going to be changing in 2023. The Iowa HC spoke about at this at B1G Media Days on Wednesday.

One thing that Iowa has been known for during Ferentz’s tenure is its defense. Ferentz stated that Iowa believes in defense and talked about how important it is that the team runs well on that side of the ball.

Ferentz addressed concerns about the offensive struggles recently. He highlighted how positions like WR and OL have been riddled with injuries.

“We believe in defense, it’s important to us,” said Ferentz. “That’s the way we’re wired and built. We’ve made the right steps. Time will tell.”

The defense and offense of Iowa last season were on two different levels. The offense averaged 251.6 yards per game and 17.7 ppg. However, the defense allowed 277.9 yards and 14.4 points per game.

Fans will have to wait and see if the offense can finally show promise with additions like Cade McNamara and Eric All Jr.

Iowa’s 2023 season starts against Utah State on Sept. 2. Kickoff will be Noon E.T. on FS1.
