Iowa finally got its first win on 2020 and did so in a big way in a blowout of Michigan State.
Not only was the win significant for the Hawkeyes in 2020, it was a big moment for head coach Kirk Ferentz. That victory against the Spartans was Ferentz’s 163rd career victory. He is currently one of five coaches in conference history to win at least 150 games in the Big Ten.
One of those five is former Penn State coach Joe Paterno. Ferentz passed Paterno on the wins list on Saturday. Though Paterno’s legacy is a bit tarnished, it’s still impressive for Ferentz given Paterno’s longevity in Happy Valley.

It’s safe to say Ferentz has become a mainstay with the Iowa program. It’s hard to think of the Hawkeyes and not think of Ferentz. Though there have been plenty of times where Iowa fans have been ready to send Ferentz packing, he’s shown to be a capable leader.
