Kirk Herbstreit continues to use his platform to discuss his disappointment with the new evolution of college football.

The College GameDay analyst has concerns about conference realignment and the mentality of the players and fans nowadays. Herbstreit believes the eventual move of Texas and Oklahoma to the SEC is creating a dangerous domino effect.

“There’s so much going on at once. I think that’s the reason there’s kinda like this step back for college football fans and administrators,” Herbstreit said. “I think there’s a few things — No. 1, I’m concerned about (SEC commissioner) Greg Sankey on an island with Texas and Oklahoma, what that has done with the other leaders.”

Herbstreit has some red flags as well for the Alliance between the B1G, ACC, and Pac-12.

“I’m concerned with this alliance (between the B1G, ACC and Pac-12). At some point, you have to bring everybody together,” Herbstreit said. “Like, everybody has to put their personal feelings aside and if college football is gonna grow and deal with all these issues, everyone’s got to get in the same room.”

Herbstreit also thinks there’s too much of an emphasis on championship or bust in college football right now.

“The other thing is, this new generation of fan and player — games don’t matter,” Herbstreit said. “You get to a game or your team is trying to get to the Playoff. As soon as you’re out of the Playoff, games don’t matter. Our generation, we don’t understand that.”

College GameDay is live from Atlanta for a Week 0 matchup between Alcorn State and North Carolina Central in the MEAC/SWAC Challenge.
