Week 8 proved to be a magical one for some teams in the Big Ten.
One of course sticks out above the rest: Purdue.
The unranked Boilermakers defeated then-ranked No. 2 Ohio State 49-20. It was a blowout and the Buckeyes couldn’t put a hold on Purdue’s offense.
Who’s to thank? The players or the coaching staff?
How about both?
On Tuesday night, however, ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit announced his top 5 coaches of the week from across the entire country. At No. 1 was the combination of Purdue’s Jeff Brohm and Nick Holt:
My coaches of the week for WEEK 8
1-Jeff Brohm/Nick Holt @BoilerFootball
2-Don Brown DC @UMichFootball
3-Bronco Mendenhall @UVAFootball
4-Adam Fuller DC @HerdFB
5-Gus Malzahn @AuburnFootball— Kirk Herbstreit (@KirkHerbstreit) October 24, 2018
Again, Purdue couldn’t be stopped Saturday night. Brohm and Holt are deserving of their praise.
Right behind the Boilermakers duo at No. 2 for Herbstreit is Michigan defensive coordinator Don Brown. Michigan’s defense completely shut down Michigan State en route to a 21-7 victory.
Michigan’s offense gained 395 total yards. Michigan State’s gained 94. The Spartans also went 0-for-12 on third down conversions.
Hats off to Michigan’s defense and Brown.
