What has Ryan Day done to this point in his head coaching career at Ohio State?
Well, for starters, he hasn’t lost a game. He’s 16-0. Not only has he led the Buckeyes to a perfect 13-0 mark and a spot in the College Football Playoff during his first full year in Columbus — he also went 3-0 a year ago when taking over for Urban Meyer due to the former coach’s suspension.

On the Tim May Podcast via LettermenRow.com, ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit talked about the job Day has done and how impressed he is:
“I’d go back to last year and make an argument that the three best games they played was when he was the head coach. Then you look at the baton being handed to him after last year and it’s one thing to have a team, it’s another thing to be able to keep a team motivated, prepared, hungry as consistently as he did. And he did that. They were the only team this year in college football, with the exception of the first half against Wisconsin, that you could say ‘Man, they either played to what they’re capable of playing or close to what they’re capable of playing every half of football. That’s hard to do.”
More from Herbstreit:
“Ryan Day has made this his team. He’s put his signature and his personality on this 2019 team. I don’t know if people understand how hard that is to do and for that, I think he was the national coach of the year.”
Saying that Day is the 2019 Coach of the Year is high praise. Although, that’s not exactly a stretch. He is on multiple Coach of the Year Award lists for a reason. The Buckeyes are a perfect 13-0 and have looked like the most consistent team all season.
Ohio State may be No. 2 in the country and underdogs to Clemson in the semifinal of the College Football Playoff, but the transition from Meyer to Day couldn’t have gone any better if you’re a Buckeye fan.
