For Ohio State and its fans, Friday’s Sugar Bowl seems like a long time coming.

The Buckeyes will get a chance to extract some revenge for a heartbreaking loss to Clemson in last season’s College Football Playoff in this year’s Sugar Bowl. On Friday, the College GameDay crew discussed the game and how Ohio State needs to handle emotions in order to pull off the victory.

The Buckeyes jumped out to a 16-0 lead in last season’s Fiesta Bowl and led into the fourth quarter before a late rally by the Tigers. You know there has to be come revenge on the brain for the folks from Columbus. According to the GameDay folks, however, the key is to control that urge for revenge.

“A big part of all bowl games are emotions, and there’s a lot of emotion coming into this game for both Clemson and Ohio State,” Kirk Herbstreit said. “Especially Ohio State after the game last year. I think the thing for Ohio State is trying to control that rage.

“You can’t just play emotional, because after a while the emotion subsides and you’re out of adrenaline. So, they’re going to have to try to control that”

When it comes to this matchup, all eyes will be on the quarterback play. This is a game of two quarterbacks who have been highly regarded all season and in the run for a Heisman Trophy. For Ohio State and quarterback Justin Fields, specifically, this is a chance to get back on track after a rough performance in the Big Ten Championship Game.

“I think the other thing that stands out is Justin Fields is one of the best quarterbacks in the country,” Herbstreit said. “Coming off his worst performance in the B1G Championship with two picks. They have to get him into a rhythm early. I expect tempo, let them run the ball. Something where he’s not thinking as much.”
