Kirk Herbstreit recently shared his thoughts on the upcoming Ohio State-Michigan rivalry game this weekend. The ESPN College GameDay host played at Ohio State.
Before last season, Ohio State had dominated the rivalry for most of the last decade. Michigan came out with the win last season, shifting the mindset of both teams in the heated rivalry.
For the Buckeyes, they got a reality check. For Michigan, it got a sense of hope.
“Obviously, Ohio State has had the upper hand for a number of years,” Herbstreit said. “And so to have that breakthrough moment, to pretend it doesn’t create a belief would be crazy.”
This game will be different for the Wolverines, however. This season, they aren’t in the Big House and instead have to take on the Buckeyes on the road.
Herbstreit believes that will be the next hurdle for Michigan to overcome. Winning at home is one thing, winning on the road is a whole different ball game.
Herbstreit said that home-field advantage is “realest” in college football.
Michigan's win against Ohio State in 2021 had a "different energy," @KirkHerbstreit told me. He said the victory gives U-M a boost, but a road challenge lies ahead.
"To eliminate that, and put that same sort of juice on the other side? That to me is one last obstacle," he said. pic.twitter.com/xNEgzNUSwl
