Kirk Herbstreit releases his top-performing players and coaches each week during the college football season. While no B1G coaches made his list for Week 2, the ESPN personality wasn’t short of options.

Topping Herbstreit’s list was Kentucky’s Mark Stoops. The Wildcats defeated Florida in Gainesville 26-16, the first time they have beaten the Gators in football in back-to-back seasons in 4-and-a-half decades.

At No. 2 was Georgia Southern’s Clay Helton. The Sun Belt posted a host of upsets on Saturday, including the former USC head coach leading the Eagles past Nebraska in Lincoln. The next day, the Cornhuskers fired Scott Frost after just over 4 seasons.

Third on Herbstreit’s list was BYU’s Kalani Sitake. BYU and Baylor were locked in a tight battle in Waco, but the Cougars left town with a 26-20 win in 2 overtimes.

Washington State’s Jake Dickert, Texas Tech’s Joey McGuire, Duke’s Mike Elko, and Marshall’s Charles Huff rounded out the list. The Cougars edged Wisconsin in Madison to improve to 2-0, while the Red Raiders needed 2 OTs to beat Houston. Meanwhile, Elko’s Blue Devils are 2-0 after a defeat of Northwestern, and Huff’s Thundering Herd celebrated a win over Notre Dame on the same day conference mates Georgia Southern (over Nebraska) and Appalachian State (over Texas A&M) pulled off upsets of Power 5 opponents.
