The College Football Playoff picture was shaken up drastically on Saturday, as two top five teams suffered their first loss.

Following Week 9 action, ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit was quick to update his top four, making some serious changes in those top spots. After an exciting weekend, Herbstreit has Alabama, Georgia, Notre Dame and Ohio State occupying those four spots, with Clemson, Oklahoma and Penn State left on the outside looking in.

Alabama is still in the top spot after being idle in Week 9. Georgia crushed Florida 42-7, Notre Dame cruised past N.C. State 35-14, and Ohio State pulled off a thrilling 39-38 come-from-behind victory over No. 2 Penn State.

Both Clemson and Oklahoma — No. 5 and No. 6 in Herbstreit’s rankings — also posted wins on Saturday.

The College Football Playoff picture continues to get more and more interesting with each passing week. As teams continue to drop games, the value of significant wins only grows in importance and significance.

With the first College Football Playoff rankings coming out on Tuesday, it’ll be interesting to see how accurate Herbstreit’s projections are come Halloween night. Will the committee have the same top four in mind? Or will the official top four look a little different?
