Being a part of a team is like being a part of a family. There may not be better evidence of that than what we saw in Chicago on Sunday afternoon in the B1G Tournament.
During Sunday’s championship game between Michigan State and Michigan, Spartans’ forward Kyle Ahrens jumped up for a rebounded and landed awkwardly and sustained what appeared to be a very serious ankle injury.
Ahrens screamed in pain and coaches and teammates rushed to his aid. As you can imagine, the scene in the United Center was an emotional one.
Here’s the video of Ahrens’ injury. It was an ugly scene, so watch with discretion:

Ahrens has battled injuries throughout the year, but this was a heartbreaking moment. And it was easy to see how much it affected his teammates emotionally.
Ahrens was averaging 4.8 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game this season.
