Lathan Ransom had a breakout season for the Ohio State defense under Jim Knowles this season, all while coming off a broken leg sustained at the end of the 2021 season.

According to a Monday report, Ransom will also return to the team for the 2023 season. Joey Kaufman and Bill Rabinowitz with The Columbus Dispatch report Ransom’s father confirmed in a text message that the defensive back will put off the NFL Draft and return to the Buckeyes for another year.

A former 4-star prospect in the 2020 recruiting class, Ransom had a solid season in 2021 as a special teams player and depth piece on the defense. Unfortunately, he suffered a broken leg in the Rose Bowl.

Ransom hit his rehab hard in the offseason, coming back quickly for the defense and performing in a starring role for Ohio State. He finished third on the defense with 74 total tackles and added 3.5 TFL, 1.5 sacks, 3 pass breakups and a forced fumble.

Along with Ransom’s defense work, he was a key piece to the special teams unit. He produced a pair of blocked punts, including a key block that helped swing the momentum in a win over Maryland.
