Lathan Ransom, Ohio State DB, responds to questions about status of broken thumb for Peach Bowl

Lathan Ransom is playing hurt. The Ohio State defensive back is suffering from a broken thumb ahead of his team’s matchup against Georgia in the Peach Bowl.

Ransom reportedly had the injury during the first play of the game in Ohio State’s 43-30 win over Maryland back in November. Despite the pain, he still recorded 7 tackles and a blocked punt against the Terps.

During Wednesday’s press conference, Ransom addressed the injury but downplayed the impact. He said he’ll be on the field regardless of how he feels come kickoff.

Asked Lathan Ransom if his broken thumb has healed. His response: “Healthy, not healthy, I’ll be on the field so at the end of the day it doesn’t really matter.”

Not much of a surprise that Ransom is downplaying the injury. The Buckeyes have a massive test against the Bulldogs with a ticket to the College Football Playoff National Championship on the line.

A win could also mean a rematch with the Michigan Wolverines if they handle business against the TCU Horned Frogs. There is simply too much at stake for Ransom to worry about the injury.

The junior defensive back has recorded 65 tackles (44 solo) with 1 forced fumble and 1 interception this season. Ransom could be a big key in stopping Georgia’s offense led by Stetson Bennett and Mackey Award winner Brock Bowers at tight end.
