The B1G’s postseason run in this year’s NCAA Tournament might have been a serious disappointment, but that’s not dissuading the college basketball experts from ranking teams in the league too high in the way-too-early polls.

Less than 24 hours after Baylor defeated Gonzaga to claim its first national title in program history on Monday night, ESPN released its way-too-early Top 25 for the 2021-22 season. Five B1G teams were included in the rankings, led by Purdue.

Despite a first-round loss to North Texas, the Boilermakers are one of three B1G teams in the Top 6, coming in at No. 3. Matt Painter’s squad is currently the highest-ranked team from the league from ESPN.

Four other B1G teams made the cut, with two others being in the Top 6. Here’s where ESPN has ranked all five B1G teams in the way-too-early poll:

  • No. 3: Purdue Boilermakers
  • No. 4: Ohio State Buckeyes
  • No. 6: Maryland Terrapins
  • No. 17: Michigan Wolverines
  • No. 22: Michigan State Spartans
