Christmas came early for one Pennsylvania-based running back looking for a chance to break through with his hometown team.

Bobby Walchak, a Pottsville native, announced Thursday that he will be staying home as he joins Penn State. He will join the squad as an in-state, preferred walk-on.

Walchak stands at 5-foot-11, 172 pounds. According to 247Sports, Walchak did not have any offers from Div. I programs and was not ranked by the site.

Walchak joins a Penn State recruiting class that was the fifth best in the B1G. The Nittany Lions sit behind Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin and Maryland. They failed to nab any five-star recruits but did grab five four-star recruits and 10 three-star guys.

As Walchak prepares to make his way to Happy Valley, he departs his hometown of Pottsville, a town with plenty of football tradition. The area has long been a home to football, dating back to the early days of the NFL.
