Maryland couldn’t figure out a role for Mike Locksley on the new coaching staff.

Instead, the defending national champions did.

According to a report from AL.com, Locksley agreed to join Alabama’s staff as an offensive analyst.

The former Maryland offensive coordinator served as the Terps’ interim coach after Randy Edsall was fired in October. Locksley remained on D.J. Durkin’s staff for the first part of the recruiting season, but Maryland hired Walt Bell from Arkansas State instead, which led to Locksley’s departure.

Locksley had previously been at Maryland as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach since 2012.

He’ll join an Alabama program that has four national titles in the last seven years. He’ll bring over 23 years of coaching experience and he’ll provide a boost as one of the top recruiters on the East Coast.

The move came two months after Alabama director of player personnel Aazaar Abdul-Rahim left the Tide for Maryland.
