The Iowa Hawkeyes lost former assistant coach Bill Brashier on Friday. He was 93 years old.

Brashier was on the staff with the team’s current head coach Kirk Ferentz back in the day. Ferentz was a young assistant with Brashier. Ferentz had some kind words to say about Brashier’s passing.

The Des Moines Register’s Chad Leistikow posted the press release on Twitter.

“Bill Brashier was a tremendous defensive coach,” said Ferentz. “Leadership was an integral part of every victory and championship our program achieved in the 1980’s and 1990’s, and I was honored to coach alongside him as a young assistant. He got the absolute best out of all of his players every single day.”

Brashier was the team’s defensive coordinator on former HC Hayden Fry’s staff.

Ferentz sent to his condolences to the Brashier family. Ferentz also stated that Brashier was someone who was never flashy or one to search for the spotlight.

We’ll see if there are any more announcements from the Iowa program about Brashier and his passing.
