Ryan Day is working on bringing in one of the top classes of the 2020 recruiting season, but Ohio State missed out on a four-star cornerback on Thursday.

Four-star cornerback Clark Phillips III, a previous Ohio State commit, flipped his decision and announced he will play his college football at Utah. He made the announcement on Thursday, the second day of the Early Signing Period.

Phillips had previously been committed to Ohio State, making his initial announcement in mid-June. He will be the highest-rated commit in Utah’s 2020 class.

According to 247 Sports, Phillips is listed as the No. 47 player overall in the 2020 class and ranks No. 4 among cornerbacks in the cycle. The La Habra native is the fifth-best player out of the state of California.

The flip is a blow for Ohio State, but the Buckeyes still own the nation’s third-best recruiting class and rank No. 1 in the B1G. Utah should be a boost in its rankings following the big announcement.
