Lovie Smith’s beard has been one of the major offseason topics of discussion in the B1G. And Illinois has fully embraced the new look of its head coach.
The beard was first noticed last basketball season and Smith has chosen to keep the fresh look as football season as started. The beard even became a trending topic on Twitter at B1G Media Days.
Now, the beard will be all over the student section at Illinois’ home opener against Kent State on Saturday. That’s right, the Illini are providing 5,000 “Lovie Beards” to students who attend the game.
Here’s a photo of the beard, posted by Scott Beatty, the play-by-play announcer for Illinois athletics.

The beard stole the attention on Media Days and maybe it will steal the show on Saturday, as well.
If the Illini start winning games this fall, Illinois might start handing out beards to everyone who visits Memorial Stadium.
