Nebraska’s Memorial Stadium was named in honor of the veterans who served in the United States military and those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in defending the freedoms of the country.
And in 2018, the stadium will truly live up to that name.
Friday, the official Twitter account of Nebraska football released a message stating that, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of World War I, Memorial Stadium has designated a special POW/MIA chair. And for every home game, a military veteran will take his or her post next to the chair.
The chair will remain unoccupied to remember and honor the Nebraskans who died in combat.

Behind the chair is a plaque with the inscription “You are not forgotten.”
What an incredible gesture from Nebraska inside the walls of Memorial Stadium.
The Huskers first home game comes on Saturday when they host Akron in the season opener. It will also be the first time fans will get the chance to get a look at this special chair designated to honor veterans of war.
