Rain delays are absolutely terrible, but in football, they’re like the worst thing imaginable.

First of all, football is a game that is awesome when it’s played in the rain. Seriously, if you’ve never tried it, even backyard football can become an epic gridiron battle narrated by NFL Films (in your head, of course) once the rain starts coming down.

Second, it’s not like rain delays happen often during football games. Sure, in baseball — in many cities — they’ve become an expected part of the game. That’s what happens when you play during the spring and summer.

Thunderstorms become a bit more uncommon during the fall and football season, though. That doesn’t mean they don’t happen, but it makes a rain-delay in a football game noteworthy.

It’s especially noteworthy when that game only has one play in the boxscore: a touchback of all things.

Alas, that was the case Saturday evening in Lincoln as the Nebraska Cornhuskers prepared to square off with the Akron Zips. On paper, this is a game that shouldn’t provide much back-and-forth excitement anyhow, but a rain delay? That has got to be miserable to sit through.

Thankfully, the fans at Memorial Stadium seem to be taking it in stride.

Like this one fan, who decided to soak in the rain delay. Like, he’s literally soaking in the rain delay:

There’s also the Nebraska student section, which figured that the only thing left to do is sing:

Fun times in Nebraska. Fun times.
