After discussing several ideas over the last few months, Purdue University has found the most appropriate way to honor former student, superfan and honorary team captain Tyler Trent.
On Wednesday, Purdue University President Mitch Daniels announced that Gate E, the entrance to the student section at Ross-Ade Stadium, will be named the “Tyler Trent Student Gate” in honor of Trent.
There will also be a plaque located outside Gate E sharing Trent’s story.

Gate E is not only the student entrance, it’s also where Trent camped out prior to Purdue’s B1G opener against Michigan in 2017. That’s also where head coach Jeff Brohm first met Trent.
Daniels and other Purdue administrators had been working on a way to honor and remember Trent for months, but they didn’t want to hurry the decision to make sure the physical memorial was appropriate.
“It’s just a matter of trying to determine the best, most tasteful and appropriate way to remember him,” Daniels told WLFI in January.
In the last months of his life, Trent promoted cancer research and joined the fight with ESPN through the V Foundation. A bobblehead doll and biography were also sold to help raise money for cancer research.
Trent will always have a place in the hearts of the Purdue community as his story and attitude reached so many.
