LOOK: Wisconsin TE Troy Fumagalli wearing special number for injured teammate

Wisconsin TE Troy Fumagalli typically wears No. 81. But if you’re looking for that jersey on Friday night, you may not be able to spot it.

That’s because Fumagalli has decided he’d wear a different number for the Badgers’ season opener, choosing to honor one of his injured teammates.

Fumagalli will wear No. 48 on Friday, the number of injured Wisconsin LB Jack Cichy. The 6-foot-5 TE was seen sporting his new number in the locker room prior to kickoff:

Cichy was injured in fall camp and was ruled out for the season. He was expected to have a big year in Madison.

Fumagalli caught 47 passes for 580 yards and two touchdowns last year. He’s been on many All-American and All-B1G preseason lists.

Wisconsin opens the season at home against Utah State.
