There were plenty of worthy candidates, but only one could win the Home Depot College Coach of the Year award in college football.

On Wednesday, LSU head coach Ed Orgeron was named the Home Depot College Coach of the Year for the 2019 season. The Tigers are 13-0 and claimed a 37-10 win over Georgia to win the SEC title. They will also be making their first-ever appearance in the College Football Playoff.

Orgeron is in his third full season with LSU, after being named the head coach in 2017. He was anointed the interim head coach tag following Les Miles’ firing in 2016.

In those 3 1/2 seasons, Orgeron has guided the Tigers to a 38-9 record, finishing 9-4 in 2017 and 10-3 last year. The biggest difference for LSU’s success this season was the decision to bring in Joe Brady as the passing game coordinator. His presence has completely revitalized the LSU offense from the “three yards and a cloud of dust” approach to a spread attack.

The result is a perfect record and a shot to win the national title.

Brady was also the winner of the Frank Broyles Award this year, presented to the top assistant coach in college football.
