Luka Garza toasts defender with brilliant post moves and nifty fadeaway

Luka Garza is getting his first taste of the NBA in Summer League action with the Pistons.
During his time in college, it would have been hard for Garza to build a better body of work than the one he put up. Garza racked up national awards and honors over his final two seasons, including winning back-to-back B1G Player of the Year Awards and two first-team All-American nods.
Despite his accomplishments, Garza lasted in the 2021 NBA Draft until the 52nd pick. That is when Detroit grabbed Garza, but it looks like the Pistons are probably happy he was still available.
During Tuesday’s action against the Houston Rockets, Garza went to work on his man in the post. He maneuvered his defender into the lane before pulling off a brilliant stepback fadeaway that was reminiscent of the great Dirk Nowitzki.

Garza’s playing time is likely done for the evening as that game continues to wind down. If he is done, Garza will finish with 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting (1-for-2 from three-point range) with 3 rebounds and an assist in 16 minutes played.
There is still a ways to go in the offseason, but it looks like Garza is building an early case to make Detroit’s roster to start the season.
