Luke Fickell agrees to lucrative contract extension with Cincinnati

Weeks after leading Cincinnati to its first-ever appearance in the College Football Playoff, Luke Fickell has agreed to a lucrative contract extension to remain the head coach of the Bearcats. Justin Williams of The Athletic reported the news on Monday.
Fickell’s new deal will keep him in Cincinnati through 2028 and will pay him $5 million per year, according to the report.
The extension is well warranted as Fickell led the Bearcats to a 13-1 season, which ended with the team earning a trip to the Cotton Bowl to play Alabama in the College Football Playoff. It was the first time a Group of 5 team reached the 4-team field.
Fickell just completed his fifth year at Cincinnati. He’s led the program to back-to-back undefeated regular seasons in 2020 and 2021. The only two losses the Bearcats sustained in the past two years were in bowl games to Georgia (Peach Bowl) and Alabama (Cotton Bowl).
Cincinnati has won 2 AAC championships under Fickell and reached a bowl game 4 times. The Bearcats have compiled a 48-15 record under Fickell and have hit double-digit win totals 3 times.
