Luke Fickell will not wind up on a hot seat for losing to the No. 4 team in the country. But he is feeling the heat from social media with his Wisconsin team thoroughly outmatched and overpowered int he first half against Alabama.

Heading into the game, the Badgers were already a massive home underdog to Kalen DeBoer’s team. That line became more notable after starting quarterback Tyler Van Dyke was carted to the locker room after a non-contact injury on the first drive of the game.

Braedyn Locke has done his best to step in for Van Dyke, but Locke entered the break just 7-for-16 passing the ball for 55 yards. Chez Mellusi and Tawee Walker have been effective at times running the football. Unfortunately, a costly fumble by Mellusi jumpstarted a double-digit lead for Alabama.

Combine that turnover with a missed field goal and Wisconsin has been on its heels all game long. The Crimson Tide carry a 21-3 lead into halftime after a late score before the break, and fans are understandably concerned about the Badgers’ efforts under Fickell.

Considering Wisconsin was just 7-6 a season ago and fans are still looking for any glimpse of true progress, this is not the kind of performance they were hoping to see from Fickell’s program. As a result, fans torched the head coach across social media.
