Luke Lachey is the latest in a long line of talented tight ends at Iowa, something he’s well aware of given its history.
Last season, for example, Sam LaPorta led all B1G tight ends with 58 catches for 657 yards. LaPorta was drafted in the second round of the NFL Draft. But he followed the likes of Dallas Clark, Tony Moeaki, George Kittle, T.J. Hockenson and Noah Fant.
Lachey led the team in receiving touchdowns last season with 4, and also made 28 catches for 398 yards, which was second on the team behind Lachey.
“It’s a really cool opportunity,” Lachey said on the Big Ten Network of living up to the lineage. “You just want to go out there and help the team win and just be the best player that you can be. I feel like the rest will take care of itself. All those guys that have come before are all great players, all did a lot of great things at Iowa and have done a lot of great things in the NFL as well. It’s really cool to be able to say that you put on the same helmet as these guys did. It’s just really an honor to be at the same school as they were.”
