Oklahoma and Tulane’s season-opener is reportedly in jeopardy as Hurricane Ida makes its way toward New Orleans.

The Sooners are currently scheduled to play in New Orleans on Sept. 4 as part of a series with Tulane.

OU athletic director Joe Castiglione released a statement on Friday evening saying the game is still on as-scheduled, but the programs are also considering contingency plans.

“First and foremost, our concern is with any and all those in the path of the storm,” Castiglione said in-part. “We are praying for everyone’s safety. At this time, the game slated for Saturday, September 4, is still on as planned. However, both universities are considering contingencies should post-storm conditions warrant.”

The storm is currently expected to reach the gulf shores this weekend. It is now classified as a Category 4 hurricane, according to the National Weather Service.

It’s currently unclear if the game could be moved to Norman or another location.
