Manny Diaz spoke at Sunday’s presser about the 2023 season. A couple of the topics he mentioned had to do with secondary and defensive line.
First and foremost, he wanted to give advice to one of the top players on the defensive side of the ball for Penn State. Kalen King is primed for a solid season in 2023 as he should be one of the top corners in the secondary.
Diaz wanted to make sure that King and all players understood that previous seasons don’t carry over into the next. Diaz emphasized not the importance of losing your edge from the year before.
“You cannot lose that edge about you that made you great the year before,” said Diaz.
Diaz says that Kalen King (and mentions that the same applies to all players) can’t carry over his 2022 season in 2023.

King played in 13 games for the Nittany Lions in 2022. He recorded 30 total tackles, 3 interceptions, and 3 tackles for loss.
Diaz spoke about the depth at defensive line that Penn has as well. Players like Chop Robinson, Adisa Isaac, and Dani Dennis-Sutton all make each other better in Diaz’s eyes.
“What makes Chop (Robinson) great is Adisa (Isaac),” said Diaz. “What makes Adisa great is Dani (Dennis-Sutton).”

Robinson, Isaac, and Dennis-Sutton are all coming off of a 2022 season where they had at least 3 sacks and will all be looking to wreak havoc on opposing offensive lines.
If these players can replicate the seasons they had a year ago for Penn State, watch out.
