Manny Diaz praised 2 standout defensive players for Penn State.

Diaz has been impressed with his defense’s performance and 2 freshmen have stepped up. The defense relied on younger members to help the entire unit.

The 2 freshmen that Diaz highlighted were defensive end Dani Dennis-Sutton and defensive tackle Zane Durant. These 2 players have helped out the defense with great plays in their first season with the program. Diaz felt comfortable with where the freshmen were on defense:

“Right now they don’t look out of place,” Diaz said.

It will be important for the defense to get Durant and Dennis-Sutton as much experience as possible to fill in the gaps on the defensive line. In 5 games at Penn State, Dennis-Sutton recorded 5 solo tackles and 3 sacks. He also broke up 1 pass.

For Durant, he has not produced a great number of stats but he has been available for the defense. He appeared in 5 games and played meaningful minutes for the Nittany Lions. Diaz showed belief in Durant and Dennis-Sutton to make plays for the defense and they have done just that. In Penn State’s last game, the defense limited Northwestern to 7 points in a 17-7 win.

Penn State will have a major road game against Michigan in Week 7.
