Marcus Freeman is aware that his first game as head coach at Notre Dame will be at Ohio State, his alma mater, in Columbus on Sept. 3.
Freeman during a guest appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show” downplayed the issue because he said he’s done it before.
“Fortunate for me, I did it two years ago when I was at Cincinnati,” Freeman said this week. “I think that was a blessing in disguise. This isn’t about me going back there because I just did it. I know what it’s like to go back there and be in the visiting locker room, which was the first time I’ve been back since I played or was a GA (graduate assistant), really. I got to experience life on the other side of the field. Now it’s about going back there with this current team and let’s go play. You get 12 guaranteed opportunities to do this, and we’re fortunate that our first opportunity is against an extremely talented opponent. What better way to measure yourself than going against the best.”
Earlier in the interview, Freeman said he hadn’t talked much with Brian Kelly since his former boss left for LSU, and he laughed and said that he hadn’t seen Kelly’s dance moves.
