Mark Dantonio added to CFP Selection Committee ahead of 2025 season

Mark Dantonio is officially joining the College Football Playoff selection committee with a significant announcement on Tuesday afternoon.

The committee will now be chaired by Baylor athletic director Mack Rhoades. He replaces Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel, who served in that role last season.

Additionally, the committee announced several other new members for the 2025 season: Mark Dantonio, Damon Evans, Ivan Masiel, Chris Massaro and Wesley Walls. That group of committee members will begin 3-year terms in 2025. They replace the following out-going members: Manuel, Chet Gladchuk, Jim Grobe, Will Shields and Kelly Whiteside.

There’s 1 additional change to the committee for 2025. Former Mizzou coach Gary Pinkel has stepped down from his post due to other commitments, per the release. He will be replaced by former CFP selection committee member Steve Wieberg for the 2025 season only.

Dantonio enjoyed a distinguished career as Michigan State‘s head coach and will now have the opportunity to to serve on the selection committee. He led the Spartans from 2007-2019 and went 114-57 during his tenure in East Lansing. His time at Michigan State was highlighted by a CFP appearance back in 2015.

Maisel is a former sportswriter who spent time at at institutions like Sports Illustrated, the Dallas Morning News, and ESPN, amongst other outlets. Evans and Massaro are the current athletics directors at Maryland and Middle Tennessee State, respectively. Walls is a former Ole Miss tight end who earned All-America honors during his time with the Rebels.
