Mark Whipple gave an update on Nebraska quarterback Casey Thompson and the potential starter for this week’s game.

Thompson left the 2nd quarter of last Saturday’s loss to Illinois with an arm injury. Thompson did not return, which left his status in question for Week 10.

While speaking to the media on Wednesday, Whipple addressed Thompson’s condition and what it will mean for Saturday’s game. He said that Thompson is better than he was in Week 9 when he sustained the injury. It is still unknown if Thompson will be available for Week 10. Whipple will decide the starting quarterback on Friday.

If Thompson can’t play against Minnesota on Saturday, Whipple will be open to playing multiple quarterbacks in Thompson’s place. Whipple was asked if Chubba Purdy and Logan Smothers will play:

“There’s a good chance,” Whipple said.

In Week 9, Purdy and Smothers saw action in the 26-9 loss. Purdy passed for 15 yards and 1 interception. He completed 3 of 8 attempted passes. Smothers completed 1 pass for 1 yard.

Purdy could be forced to split time with Smothers against Minnesota. Purdy has played in 4 games this season. He has passed for 50 yards and 2 interceptions. Nebraska will have an important decision to make at quarterback.

Nebraska will host Minnesota on Saturday at 12 p.m. ET.
