Maryland AD Kevin Anderson will take a “six-month professional development sabbatical”

Reports surfaced this weekend that something was up with Kevin Anderson and his status as athletic director at Maryland.
Some reports indicated that he was fired, but the university maintained that was not the case. On Monday, Anderson sent out a memo to Maryland’s senior athletic staff and coaches that he was taking a “six-month professional development sabbatical” while remaining at his AD position.
On Saturday, Yahoo Sports’ Pete Thamel reported that there is some friction between university president Wallace Loh and Anderson. According to Thamel, Anderson hasn’t attend Maryland’s last three games.
Anderson, who has been Maryland’s AD since 2010, indicated Loh will appoint somebody to serve as acting AD during his time away.
“While on sabbatical, the regular duties of running the department will be performed by an administrator to be selected by President Loh,” Anderson wrote.
That person, Maryland announced, is Damon Evans, the Executive Director, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer of Athletics. Evans previously was the athletic director at Georgia, but resigned after an arrest for DUI in 2010.
Currently, Maryland is 3-3 on the year after losing to Northwestern this past weekend.
