There appear to be a large set of absences across the Big Ten this weekend as players deal with injuries and COVID-19 protocol. One of those larger absences appears to be at Maryland.
We learned minutes before the Terps’ matchup with Rutgers that Maryland would be without quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa. That means Lance LeGendre will be under center for the Terps as they take on the Scarlet Knights.

LeGendre is a sophomore and in his second season at Maryland. He has appeared in just one game this season, and that was the season opener against Northwestern. He went 4-for-4 for 49 yards.
In 2019, LeGendre appeared in three games where he rushed for 104 yards on 13 carries. He was a four-star recruit out of New Orleans and committed to Maryland over other offers from schools such as Florida State, Alabama, Missouri, Oklahoma State and Tennessee.
It’s unclear exactly why Tagovailoa is missing for the Terps. Maryland has played just one game in the past month, which was a 27-11 loss to Indiana on Nov. 28.
