Maryland football took a step in the right direction last season under HC Mike Locksley. However, QB Taulia Tagovailoa still remembers one of his low moments from 2021.

Tagovailoa spoke at B1G Media Days on Tuesday with Jason Horowitz, Anthony Herron, and Ben Hartsock of Sirius XM. Maryland’s 6-6 regular season finish was capped off by a 54-10 blowout win against Virginia Tech in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl.

The young Maryland QB spoke about the areas where he can do better going into 2022. During his breakout year last season, he had 3,860 yards passing with 26 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. While he had a great 2021 season, he is grateful for the experience he got against the Hawkeyes.

“You know, against Iowa it was tough,” said Tagovailoa. “I think it was a night game, on a Friday night and, you know, they had the best defense coming into that game and they proved it. I think I threw five interceptions and I think after the first one, our second drive we scored, and then (things went downhill). But there (are) no excuses for that. It was just one of those nights, I guess. But I think it did make me better. Knowing how it feels to be up there and just come down like that. You take it on the chin and just keep moving.”
