The Maryland bats were feeling it on Friday against Long Island University as the Terps won 23-1. The scoring led to a new program record for runs scored in an NCAA Tournament Game.
The Terps got the scoring started early in the 2nd inning. Back-to-back throwing errors allowed 2 runs to score, followed by 7 more runs before the end of the inning. Matt Shaw had one of the more exciting plays, with a home run to deep left field that hit off of the scoreboard.

After a 9-run 2nd inning, Long Island allowed Maryland to rattle off 11 more unanswered runs, including 2 more moon shots from Luke Shliger and Ian Petrutz in the 4th and 6th innings. When the smoke cleared, Maryland finished the game with all 23 of its runs coming from 20 hits. Long Island’s 1st run didn’t come until the 7th inning.

Ryan Ramsey was the starting pitcher, and went 5 innings without allowing any runs to score with 11 strikeouts as well. Logan Ott finished off the game in relief, with a stat line of 2 ER and 7 strikeouts in 4 innings pitched.
Maryland faces UConn in the next round of the College Park Regional Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
